Associate Vice President, Public Safety
Monica Moll was named The Ohio State University’s Director of Public Safety in October of 2016 and was promoted to associate vice president in August 2024. She is responsible for the operation of the five divisions within OSU’s Department of Public Safety: the Police Division, Communications & Security Technology, Emergency Management & Fire Prevention, Central Campus Security Services and Wexner Medical Center Security.
Moll came to OSU from Bowling Green State University where she served as Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police for six years. At BGSU she was responsible for leading the BGSU Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, Parking Services and Shuttle Services.
Prior to joining BGSU, Moll was a Lieutenant in the Kent State University Police Department. During her 14 years as a police officer at KSU she served as a shift commander, crisis negotiator for the Metro SWAT Team, community policing liaison, Crisis Intervention Team officer, basic police academy instructor, investigator and patrol officer. She also taught undergraduate policing courses as an adjunct professor.
Moll obtained her undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of Akron. She obtained both a Master of Public Administration degree and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Kent State University. Moll is also a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College, the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program, and the 238th session of the FBI National Academy.
Moll’s primary research interest is police ethics. Her dissertation focused on ethics training in police academies across the U.S. She is a co-author of the 2nd edition of Power and Restraint: The Moral Dimension of Police Work, Praeger, 2021.
